The central pipe of your YOLO Compost Tumbler may need to be replaced after a few years.
This steel pipe, which was initially powder coated and then hot-dip galvanised (since 2022), is constantly exposed to warmth and moisture and the materials of your compost. Despite the coatings, it can still rust over time. If your pipe is beyond repair, consider replacing it. Select the correct size for your YOLO unit.
Fortunately, replacement is relatively simple. Unscrew the large bolts and nuts that connect the pipe to the frame and push or pull the pipe to remove it from the shells. More than one set of hands is needed to hold the frame / shells and to help to push or pull. If the pipe is very rusted, you may need to cut it using a grinder as it is easier to bash a short piece of pipe through than the whole length.
Push the new pipe through. It is easiest to do this with the shells in position within the frame. Get your friend to help with twisting and pushing to get the pipe through (it is a snug fit). Then, place the nuts and bolts, tighten, and finish by adding the endcaps.
