The convenience of tumbling your compost

You’ve no doubt heard of the back-breaking work involved in turning a compost heap using a pitchfork? That’s why we love the YOLO Compost Tumbler – there’s no heap to be turned.

Compost tumblers are a revolution in composting. They make a seemingly arduous process easy and convenient. You don’t need a large yard, they’re odour-free, a manageable size, and aesthetically appealing. Best of all, there is no back-breaking compost turning involved.

Turning a compost pile or spinning a compost tumbler serves to mix new material with older, decomposing material and to prevent the contents from compacting. More importantly, turning aerates the contents and delivers oxygen to the microbes (bacteria, fungi and small organisms) that work on the material and digest it. These living organisms require oxygen to survive.

A compost tumbler beats a standard compost heap or bin hands down because each time you add new material, you give it a spin. This should be two or three times a week. The internal fins of the YOLO Compost Tumbler thoroughly mix new material in with the old, to introduce oxygen to the content and prevent clumping.

Turning the YOLO Compost Tumbler doesn’t require Herculean strength. Without much effort, even an elderly person is able to spin a full 50-litre YOLO Compost Tumbler.
