Dealing with too much moisture

Those of us fortunate enough to be enjoying these wonderful rains need to pay a little more attention to the contents of your YOLO.

Kitchen waste materials have a high water content, the air is saturated and grass cuttings will be wetter than usual.

You have to balance wet with dry by adding more than usual the amount of dry materials like torn-up egg trays (my favourite) and cardboard and shredded leaves. Dry materials absorb moisture and ‘fluff’ the contents to create airspaces in the mix for improved oxygen distribution.

If your YOLO contents smell sour or off, add more dry materials and give your YOLO a bit more TLC by opening the lid to let in fresh air and tumbling more regularly. It comes right again in a few days.
