Composting sawdust

My dad came to visit yesterday and he brought me a gift – a few bags of sawdust from a sawmill near his home (he says they have mountains of the stuff!).

Sawdust from chemical-free wood is a great compost additive. It is a ‘brown’ carbon-rich material that soaks up excess moisture. But take care, sawdust is more potently carbon-rich than dry leaves. Sprinkle a cupful here and there and then tumble for even distribution instead of dumping a whole bag into your YOLO Compost Tumbler shell.

FYI: Some pages I found with info on composting sawdust and wood shavings.
